The vast and endless sea

"If you want to build a ship, don't drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea."

Antoine de Saint-Exupery
I bumped into this earlier while reading about designing Web sites. It's been stuck in my head all day.

Lovely quote, Matt. So true. Exupery was the author of The Little Prince and several books on solo flying. He died on a mission during WWII. Highly recommend his books. You can see from this quote that he was a very passionate and poetic person.

I never quite got into St Exupery - I always preferred Richard Bach, another wonderful writer on flying, and an inspirational philosopher.

Illusions is one of my very favourite books, and one I regularly turn to for comfort in times of trouble.

More on what happened to him here.

Thanks for the link. I hadn't heard his plane was found. Fascinating. In fact the whole list is fascinating. Thanks.
